Our Guide to Seasonal Maintenance

Learn more about the maintenance tasks that you need to complete, and also the importance of having professional maintenance for your air conditioner.

You may be ready to turn off your air conditioner and switch over to heating as we head into fall. But don’t do it quite yet. Before turning off your air conditioner, we encourage you to complete some AC maintenance tasks to make sure your unit is in excellent condition over the fall and winter months as it sits unused.

And part of taking good care of your air conditioner is scheduling a professional AC tune-up in Oregon City. If you haven’t scheduled an AC maintenance appointment yet this year, now is the time to do so. Keep reading to learn more about the maintenance tasks that you need to complete, and also the importance of having professional maintenance for your air conditioner.

Homeowner Maintenance Tips

Before shutting your air conditioner down for the fall and winter, there are a few steps you need to complete first. It’s a good idea to go ahead and change out your dirty air filter for a clean one so that your air conditioner is ready to go when spring rolls around again. That way if you forget to check the air filter before you turn your air conditioner on, there is a clean air filter already in place.

We also encourage you to pour some vinegar into your condensate drain line as a way of preventing mold and mildew from developing in the line while your air conditioner sits unused. Skipping the step could mean that you have a condensate drain line clog in spring next year that needs to be addressed.

It’s also a good idea to rinse off the outdoor portion of your unit to eliminate dirt and grime that has built up over the summer season. Heat has to escape your home via the outdoor portion of the unit. If it is clogged with dirt and dust, heat can get trapped inside of your air conditioner and re-release into your home. Your air conditioner will end up working harder in an attempt to cool your home down effectively.

As you complete each of these tasks, inspect the portions of your air conditioner that you can easily see and reach. If you notice anything alarming like signs of damage, go ahead and schedule an appointment for service. If you can see damage on the outside of your air conditioner, there’s a chance that there is also damage on the inside of your air conditioner.

Importance of Scheduling Professional Maintenance

Aside from completing maintenance of your own, it is also important for you to have a professional look at your air conditioner. We have expert eyes and a lot of experience. We can often see problems that you don’t even know about yet. When you invest in a professional tune-up you can address smaller repair needs and prevent larger problems from ever happening to begin with.
